Our house was built in 2009 and it has a beautiful fireplace with an insert. We didn't do too many fires last winter (maybe 1) but this year are wanting to use it more. If you are getting smoke in the house or you stove just don’t seem to be burning like should. Check the door seal and latch for a tight fit. As far as a fire in the house, as long as the stove is maintained right and installed properly, there is more chance that a bolt of lightning will hit your chimney and burn the house down than the stove doing it. Being ANAL and worrying about stoves/fire is a good thing, but not to the point of going nuts over it. Can hot embers come out of your pellet stove and burn your house down The house has radiator heat. The boiler kicks on intermittently when the thermostat shows that the house is 4-5 degrees above the set temperature. Is this a design feature of high efficiency boilers since it may take a while to bring the house up to temp with radiators or is there something wrong with the thermostat or boiler control?
